Vercingetorix – Les Arenes de Nimes

In the year 122, Emperor Hadrian came to Nîmes. He was returning from the island of Brittany (present day Great Britain) where he had defeated the barbarian peoples of the North. On this occasion, he offers the inhabitants of Nîmes a day of games (the “Ludi”) in the Roman amphitheater that has just been built. It will feature gladiatorial fights and a re-enactment of the story of Julius Caesar’s conquest of Gaul and his famous victory against Vercingetorix at Alesia.
