DESCRIPTION:Saturday 25 April\, 3:30 pm\nLes Arènes de Nîmes\n\nWe have had a super turn out of more than 70 members attending this yearly re-enactment extravaganza. This year’s production is “Spartacus – the Slave who Defied Rome”.  We also have a pre-show luncheon at the popular nearby restaurant Tempo. Spartacus attendees should have received a luncheon invitation flyer March 21st. If you wish to attend the pre-show luncheon\, the deadline for reservations is noon on Wednesday 15 April. \nYou will collect your tickets for the show from Gill and Yogesh\, please meet them at the El Nimeño bullfighter statue in front of the Arènes.  Meeting time is between 2:15pm – 3:00pm. It will take about 20 – 30 minutes to get through security and find our seats.  PLEASE BE ON TIME. \nThe show starts at 3:30pm and will last approximately 2.5 hours \nGill & Yogesh Mehta\nGill@britsnimes.com

DESCRIPTION:Saturday 2 May\, 10:00 am\nJardins les Sentiers de l’Abondance\nEygalieres\n\nSpring has now finally sprung in the gardens and there’s lots for us to do!  It’s so nice to see the new shoots and buds heralding another cycle of life. \nOur April meeting has been delayed until May 2\, because the Spartacus event is on our usual Saturday.  So on May 2nd we will be going to the Jardins les Sentiers de l’Abondance in Eygalieres to discover their organic Mediterranean planting using traditional techniques and irrigation\, respecting biodiversity. \nThey have made canals for irrigation originating from a natural water source and cultivated plants to suit the environment and accommodate the insects including bees. There are flowers all the way through from February to October. DESCRIPTION:Tuesday 19 May\, 3:00pm\nAt a Member’s home the third Tuesday of the Month \nThis month we are reading ‘Hamnet’ by Maggie O’Farrell. \nThe novel relates to the real-life death of William Shakespeare’s only and forgotten son Hamnet who was buried on 11 August 1596. It describes the circumstances of William Shakespeare’s marriage with Agnes Hathaway (portrayed as a herbalist)\, the birth of their children and subsequent death of Hamnet\, potentially from bubonic plague\, which influenced Shakespeare’s subsequent writing in the tragedy of his play Hamlet. The story includes some of the known facts of Shakespeare’s life in the Tudor Period but also includes myths and other imagined fictions surrounding Hamnet’s death. DESCRIPTION:Saturday 23 May\, 4:00 pm\nHome of Marie-Françoise Ashley\n30700 Montaren et St Médiers\n\nSo\, this is prime time for our gardens\, and it has worked out quite well for those of us busy getting our gardens ready that we didn’t have a meeting in April. The outing to Sentiers d’Abondance on May 2 which was the April event is fully booked. \nOur next meeting will be on May 23 and we are very lucky to be hosted by Marie-Francoise Ashley again. For those of us who saw her garden two years ago it will be an opportunity to see how it has matured and pick up some useful tips. \nMarie-Françoise will present ‘A garden in the Garrigue’ and will visit rules and regulations about ‘débrousaillement’ OLD (Obligations Légales de Débroussaillement)\, as they become stricter by the year. She will talk about the local plants and will provide a few rampant rosemary plants. Bernadette is difficult\, eccentric and does not get along with the other uppity mothers at Bee’s private school.
