DESCRIPTION:Tuesday 19 May\, 3:00pm\nAt a Member’s home the third Tuesday of the Month \nThis month we are reading ‘Hamnet’ by Maggie O’Farrell. \nThe novel relates to the real-life death of William Shakespeare’s only and forgotten son Hamnet who was buried on 11 August 1596. It describes the circumstances of William Shakespeare’s marriage with Agnes Hathaway (portrayed as a herbalist)\, the birth of their children and subsequent death of Hamnet\, potentially from bubonic plague\, which influenced Shakespeare’s subsequent writing in the tragedy of his play Hamlet. The story includes some of the known facts of Shakespeare’s life in the Tudor Period but also includes myths and other imagined fictions surrounding Hamnet’s death. For those of us who saw her garden two years ago it will be an opportunity to see how it has matured and pick up some useful tips. \nMarie-Françoise will present ‘A garden in the Garrigue’ and will visit rules and regulations about ‘débrousaillement’ OLD (Obligations Légales de Débroussaillement)\, as they become stricter by the year. She will talk about the local plants and will provide a few rampant rosemary plants. It covers the real-life\, gripping story of Rudolf Vrba\, who managed to escape from Auschwitz with detailed information to inform the world about what was happening there. \nMeticulously researched\, the novel shows how Vrba’s account was not believed\, nor acted upon\, by Churchill\, among many others\, and the effect this had on this remarkable man’s life. DESCRIPTION:Saturday 27 June\, 10:00 am\nJardin Ethnobotaniques de la Gardie\nChem. de Panissière\, 30340 Rousson \nThe end of June is our last meeting before the summer break and we usually have a bit of a party.  This year it will be a picnic party in an interesting garden. \nWe will be going to the Jardin Ethnobotaniques de la Gardie for a guided tour on June 27.  It is an interesting innovative conservation and cultural site which combines wild and cultivated plants and various aspect or rural heritage. There is a medieval kitchen garden with a variety of medicinal plants\, a Mediterranean garden\, an area of ancient cereals and a reconstructed bee hive as well as a charcoal area. It is run on a voluntary basis and is pretty unique at the base of the Cévennes mountains.  For more information\, please see their website:  https://jardinethno.fr/\n\nThe visit will start at 10:00am and after we can use their facilities for a picnic – everyone to bring something to eat and their own blankets.  There will be a small charge for this visit so watch out for the flyer.
