The Alès book club will meet on Tuesday May 19th at 2:30 in its usual venue, L’atelier de Marie, Place Gabriel Péri, Alès.

Our book will be ‘The Names’ by Florence Knapp. The novel looks at how our given names can influence our future, a fascinating topic in itself. When Cora goes to register the birth of her son, should she do as her abusive husband insists and name him after his father? Or choose the name her young daughter suggests? The third possibility is her own choice. We then have three narratives whose outcomes rely on the choice Cora makes. This is a debut novel which has received excellent reviews and has become a best-seller.
