The Alès book club will meet on Tuesday 20th January at 2:30 in its usual venue, L’atelier de Marie, Place Gabriel Péri, Alès. 

Our book will be ‘The Storyteller of Casablanca’ by Fiona Valpy. In 1941 France has fallen to Nazi occupation, and twelve-year-old Josie has fled with her family to Casablanca, where they await safe passage to America. And she loves the city! Seventy years later, Zoe arrives in Casablanca and discovers Josie’s diary from the 1940s beneath the floorboards of her daughter’s bedroom. Zoe enters the inner world of young Josie, who once looked out on the same view of the Atlantic Ocean, but who knew a very different Casablanca.
