Our book this month is “Still Life” by Sarah Winman.
A wonderfully life-affirming book telling the story of the meeting of Ulysses, a young British soldier, and Evelyn, an elderly art historian, who meet in 1944 in the ruined wine cellar of a Tuscan villa, as the Allied troops advance, and bombs fall around them.

These two unlikely people find kindred spirits in each other, and Evelyn’s talk of E.M.Forster and truth and beauty plants a seed in Ulysses’ mind. Moving from
the Tuscan Hills, to the smog of the East End and the piazzas of Florence, “Still Life” is a rich, funny, and very readable book.
For practical reasons, attendance is limited to 14.
