At a Member’s home the third Tuesday of the Month

This month we will be discussing “Prodigal Summer’ by Barbara Kingsolver. Over the course of one humid summer, as the urge to procreate overtakes the lush countryside, this novel’s intriguing protagonists– a reclusive wildlife biologist, a young farmer’s wife marooned far from home, and a pair of ederly, feuding neighbors — face disparate predicaments but find connections to one another and to the flora and fauna with whom they necessarily share a place. Their discoveries are embedded inside countless intimate lessons in biology, the realities of small farming, and the final, urgent truth that humans are only one piece of life on earth.  It covers the contradictions between ecology and the needs of farmers and will no doubt make for a good discussion.

Book club numbers are limited, as we meet in members’ homes, and unfortunately, we currently have a waiting list. Feel free to contact us if you want to receive our reading list (created by member poll) or to be added to the waiting list.
