The book we will be discussing is ‘Blood River’ by Tim Butcher.

Published in 2007, the book is the account of the author’s trip down the Congo River following in the footsteps of legendary explorer H.M. Stanley’s famous 1874 expedition.
Reviews describe the book as ‘harrowing’ and ‘audacious’, ‘brilliant but sad’. It is a compulsively readable account of a journey to the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country virtually inaccessible to the outside world.
Vividly told, Blood River is a story of exploration and survival. We’re looking forward to finding out if our readers enjoyed the book as much as the reviews would suggest.
