Our book this month is “Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight” by Alexandra Fuller.
Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight is Alexandra Fuller’s coming of age memoir in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) during the 1970s, during the civil war. She recounts, in often vivid detail, the harsh realities of living in a violently polarized society and the deep scars that war leaves upon its survivors.
It’s a fascinating story of an unusual, highly independent immigrant family from Britain, forever moving from one farm to another, with each change putting them more at risk from the guerilla insurgency. And there are thoughtful accounts/reflections on how the black Rhodesian farm employees saw the Fuller family. Alexandra pulls no punches, so the story is vivid, often funny, often painful.
For practical reasons attendance is limited to 14.
If you wish to attend e-mail me by March 20.
